Collection: Crash

John "CRASH" Matos began graffiti at a very young age on New York trains before practicing on canvas. In 1983, he joined the Sidney Janis gallery before making his entrance into the world's greatest collections from the MOMA in New York to the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. He appeared to the general public by co-producing the advertising campaign of Peter Stuyvesant with Keith Haring.

He became known in France by participating in the exhibition 5/5 Figuration Libre, France-USA at the Musée d'art Moderne de la Ville de Paris in 1984. This exhibition compared the work of artists such as Basquiat, Boisrond, Combas, Keith Harring, Tseng Kwong Chi, Di Rosa… and John Crash Matos.

In 1996, he painted five Eric Clapton Stratocaster guitars, one of which went for $321,100. In July 2006, he exhibited at the Brooklyn Museum. In 2007,  Secret Story used one of his pieces to create the Eye of the Franchise. Since 2010, he has exhibited every year in France, particularly in Paris. He exhibited in Montpellier at the At Down Gallery for a solo exhibition from October 22 to November 22, 2015. A date in Montpellier 25 years after his first exhibition in the city.
